Proposal Setup in Cayuse Sponsored Projects and Compliance Review
IMPORTANT: The Cayuse Application is NOT A TEST ENVIRONMENT! If you are not familiar with Cayuse, PLEASE DO NOT TRY CREATING A TEST PROPOSAL! This creates a permanent record that cannot be deleted.
For any Cayuse questions or assistance please contact Michele Favoretto at favormi@udmercy.edu or (313) 993-1428.
Cayuse SP is the UDM permanent archive and audit-ready system for funding and research activities. Cayuse is a cloud-based application designed to streamline the grant proposal preparation and submission process. Cayuse offers universities and organizations a selection of interconnected modules to manage all aspects of the proposal process, from pre-award, compliance, and submission, to post-award management. UDM has purchased and is implementing Cayuse Human Ethics, Cayuse Sponsored Projects, Cayuse S2S (submission to grants.gov), Cayuse HR Connect, and Cayuse Fund Manager (post-award management).
The Cayuse SP module offers single-sign-on (SOS) access for all UDM faculty and provides a personal portal for all your proposal materials and activities. It supports creating a team, assigning tasks, and tracking progress. It will route final projects for review and approvals all with a single click. The dashboard tracks routing progress, among other key data, including date and time stamps to support version control.
Is Cayuse required for ALL sponsored projects?
YES. UDM purchased the Cayuse Sponsored Projects module to streamline the grant proposal preparation and internal approval process, while providing users improved collaboration tools, secure file storage, and a permanent audit trail for the University.
One-on-One Cayuse Setup Session
To get your proposal started in Cayuse you will schedule a one-on-one, one (1) hour Zoom/Teams session with the Cayuse Administrator. During the session, we will step through each topic section and address the questions as they relate to your project and potential regulatory compliance requirements.
Outcome: The PI will have completed 85%-90% of the proposal requirements, have insight into areas of the project that may require additional explanation or regulatory compliance, and guidance on next steps.
Cayuse SP has a series of sections on the lefthand side of the screen. In each section are questions related to the section topic.
The RED circle indicates that the section is not yet completed and the number in the circle indicates how many questions remain to be answered.
When all questions have been answered in a section a GREEN circle with a checkmark will display.
When each section has a green checkmark, the “Route for Review” button is activated, and the PI can begin the internal routing/review process.
The University of Detroit Mercy adheres to all applicable federal regulations and higher education governance policies, ensuring compliance with standards set forth by relevant authorities to maintain the integrity and quality of its educational, research and sponsored programs.
The UDM Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Activities (OSPRA) is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance for all sponsored programs and research. This office provides access to relevant policies and procedures through its website and the Cayuse SP system. Principal Investigators (PI’s) and their teams are required to acknowledge their awareness of these policies and the code of conduct for research.
Please note: University of Detroit Mercy requires all Principal Investigators (PI) and each team member to complete the CITI Programs – Conflict of Interest Certification. The certificate of completion is uploaded to Cayuse with each proposal.
Principal investigators are required to familiarize themselves with University policies and ensure compliance. For questions or clarification please contact Ann Serra serram@udmercy.edu
